La nostra storia comincia grazie alla grande volontà dell'allora parroco Don Gino Frediani, il quale aveva un sogno..."creare una grande festa a Ponte a Egola, dove le persone avrebbero avuto modo di incontrarsi, conoscersi e stare insieme" non solo durante la festa ma anche durante l'anno. Così, con l'aiuto di persone volenterose, fu creato un comitato che dette vita alla prima edizione del Palio del Cuoio, nel 1988. Il tema centrale su cui imperniare la manifestazione fu ovviamente la lavorazione del cuoio e delle pelli, tradizionale attività per la quale il nostro paese è conosciuto in tutto il mondo. Così anche la scelta della gara per la disputa e l'assegnazione del Palio, non poteva cadere che sulla "Corsa dei Caratelli". Il paese fu 'diviso' in sei rioni tenendo conto della storia e dei toponimi che tuttora caratterizzano le varie zone di Ponte a Egola, ed a ciascuno di essi fu assegnato un colore. Inizialmente i rioni erano sei: GIUNCHETO (bianco-rosso) - IL PONTE (bianco-giallo) - LE FORNACI (bianco-celeste) - LEPORAIA (bianco-verde) - MONTENASO (bianco-nero) - TOGNARINO (bianco-arancio). Il Rione Montenaso, qualche anno fa, è stato costretto a lasciare per motivi oggettivi, cosicché la divisione è stata rifatta assegnando nuovi confini ai cinque rioni rimanenti. Fu deciso che la festa si sarebbe svolta durante l'ultima settimana di Giugno cominciando con la sfilata dei rioni e finendo con la gara nel'ultima Domenica del mese. Nei primi anni, durante la settimana del Palio, si svolgeva anche la Fiera per le macchine da conceria che contribuì notevolmente a dare lustro e risonanza al Palio del Cuoio. Oggi, dopo 20 edizioni, la manifestazione è cresciuta richiamando in piazza migliaia di persone ogni anno. Persone che si incontrano, parlano, discutono...e si divertono nello spirito del Palio, ottenendo perciò, lo scopo per cui è nata ed esiste questa festa che riesce ad unire emozioni, competitività e amicizia! Tutto questo naturalmente non sarebbe possibile senza la grande disponibilità di tutte le persone che lavorano costantemente, con passione ed entusiasmo, affinché ogni anno si possa realizzare questa splendida manifestazione, ed a cui va, da parte di tutti noi, un vivo ringraziamento. Il comitato palio del cuoio si è sciolto, nel 2005, per ricostituirsi Associazione Eventi Ponteaegolesi con il fine di organizzare, insieme ai commercianti ed alle altre realtà associative del territorio, manifestazioni ed eventi sul territorio di Ponte a Egola anche nel resto dell’anno e non solo nel periodo in cui si svolge il Palio del Cuoio.

History of Palio del Cuoio

Our story begins has been greatly desire the then parish priest Don Gino Frediani, who had a dream ... So with the help of people goodwill, was created a committee that get the first edition of the palio under way in 1988. The country was' divided 'in six districts taking account of history and place names that still characterize the various areas of Ponte a Egola, and each was assigned a color. Initially the six districts were: GIUNCHETO (red-white) - IL PONTE (white-yellow) - LE FORNACI (white-blue) - LEPORAIA (white-green) - MONTENASO (black and white) - TOGNARINO (white-orange). The Montenaso District, a few years ago, was forced to leave for objective reasons, so that the division has been rebuilt assigning new boundaries for the remaining five districts. It was decided that the festival would take place during the last week of June beginning with the parade of quarters and ending with the race on the last Sunday of the month. In the early years, during the week of the Palio, also held the Fair for tannery machines which contributed significantly to give and resonance of the Palio del Cuoio. Today, after 20 years, the event has grown in the streets calling thousands of people every year. People who meet, talk, discuss ... and have fun in the spirit of the Palio, thus achieving the purpose for which it is born and there is this event that can unite emotions, competitiveness and friendship! All this of course would not be possible without the willingness of all the people who work constantly, with passion and enthusiasm, so that every year we can achieve this wonderful event, which goes by all of us, a heartfelt thanks. The committee was dissolved in 2005, to rebuild Ponteaegolesi Events Association with the aim to organize, along with traders and other associations of the territory, demonstrations and events on the territory of Ponte a Egola also in the rest of the year and not only in the period in which the Palio del Cuoio is held.
